Musk: A group of people may die in the early stages of Mars exploration
Elon Musk

"A group of people will likely die in the early stages of exploring Mars," said the founder of the American "SpaceX" company, Elon Musk.

In an interview with XPrize founder Peter Diamandis, in which Musk appeared barefoot, the latter indicated that "transporting people to Mars would be dangerous, but it is necessary to ensure the survival of mankind."

"It is like going to Mars, explorer Ernest Shackleton, going to the South Pole," he added.

He continued, "You may die ... and you may not get good food and all these things. It is a dangerous and arduous journey from which you may not return alive, but it is a glorious adventure."

And about receiving many requests to participate in the trip to Mars, Musk said: "Explorers must be careful about what they desire."

"Frankly, a group of people might die at first, so we only want volunteers to go on the trip," he said.
