Two scientists from the University of California at the Department of Engineering in Los Angeles invented a device that generates electricity by capturing the charge from snowfall .. How was that done ?!
A device called Snow-TENG, which works by bringing the positive charge of snow with the negative charge of silicon.
When the two materials meet, small bursts of electricity are created.
MAHER AL-QADI (ONE OF THE INVENTORS OF THE DEVICE) TOLD POPSCI:
"When you run on a carpet, the charge is transmitted from the carpet to your body and if you touch a metal door handle, you will have an electric shock and we generated electricity using a similar mechanism."
At this point, the new device is nothing more than a prototype to demonstrate the applicability of the idea with very low power output.
Researchers hope, according to Popular Science, that a modern version of this device will be able to power portable weather stations.
Or help keep electronic devices working during a snowstorm when solar energy is not available.
